Types Of Tumble Dryers
You can get traditional dryers and ventless dryers. Traditional ones continuously the cool, dry air around them and then heat it before it passes through the tumble dryer. The resulting hot air is vented outside to make room for more dry air with which it can continue it's drying process.
Ventless Dryers
Ventless dryers can be; spin, condensation, heat pump, mechanical steam compression, dehumidifier, convectant & solar.
- Spin; these machines simply spin the drum faster then a normal washer can, this extracts water from the clothes.
- Condensation; as in a normal dryer, these pass hot air through the clothes to dry them.
- Heat pump; the hot air from the tumbler is passed through a heat pump. These dryers can use less than 50% of the energy required for a condensation or traditional dryer.
- Mechanical steam compression; currently in development. They are basically a more advanced version of the heat pump versions.
- Dehumidifier; These keep a very low humidity, they encourage speedy evaporation without high heat which reduces negative effects on clothing.
- Convectant; refered to by some companies as a 'static clothes drying technique'. It consists of a heating unit on the bottom, a single vertical chamber and also a vent on the top. This design is very energy efficient but barely dries the load faster then line drying.
- Solar; a box shaped static object with an internal compartment that houses the clothes. It uses the suns heat to dry the load, without the need for direct sunlight to reach the clothes.
