About Tumble Dryers
They can also be referred to as a 'clothes dryer', however the most widely used term around the world is 'tumble dryer'. The machine removes moisture from a load of clothes or textiles, normally soon after they have been in the washing machine.
Most dryers have a rotating drum through which warm air is circulated which in turn evaporates the moisture from the clothes inside. Some clothes can shrink when being tumble dryed or become less soft so it is important to read labels, read manuals and even after that if the appliance does have a negative effect on items then remember for future reference.
At the moment all tumble dryers for sale have an energy rating, which is compulsory in the EU, make sure you look out for it when shopping whether it is offline or online.
History
The general tendency is to think the tumble dryer is a fairly new invention. However the first hand cranked version was made in 1799! But the first automatic dryer didn't appear until June 1892, so automatic ones have been around for well over a century.
